It also serves as a venue for activities related to spiritual upliftment, women's education and women's empowerment. All of these topics were dear to Gandhiji.

The Gandhi Darshan was first set up as a temporary Stall in the All India Industrial Exhibition (AIIE) of 1969 to commemorate Gandhiji's 100th birth anniversary. Thereafter, every year, the temporary stall was set up in the AIIE, and on 30th Jan 1972, on Gandhiji's martyrdom day, the foundation stone for a permanent building was laid by Mata Janki Devi Bajaj. This building was inaugurated by Acharya Balkoba Bhave on 23rd Dec 1973. Exhibition Society is the custodian of this building and the activities in Gandhi Darshan are planned and managed under a Managing Committee.
